Psychodynamic Therapy
As a starting point, the psychodynamic approach proposes that we all have an inner world. This world is made up of thoughts, feelings, memories and beliefs. Many of these can come from our past experiences. These past experiences have a major influence on how we think and behave in our lives today.
Part of our inner world is conscious. This means that we may know about and have access to it. A large part, however, is unconscious, meaning that we cannot access it quite so easily.
Psychodynamic counselling allows us, together, to visit your past in a gentle manner at your own pace. Such a process can allow parts of your inner world which may be unconscious into your awareness. From here, you will begin to notice how some of these thoughts and behaviours can be affecting your life in the here and now.
This increased self awareness can allow you to begin to make the changes you are currently seeking in your life.
Trauma-Informed Therapy
At the heart of trauma-informed therapy is the understanding that trauma can have a deep and lasting impact on a person's emotional, physical and psychological well-being. It is not a specific technique, but a framework that guides how therapy is delivered. It prioritises safety, choice, trust and empowerment. This facilitates healing in a compassionate and supportive environment.
Trauma can affect how we relate to others, how we see ourselves and how we cope with stress. As a trauma-informed therapist, I can help you make sense of these experiences without judgement, at your pace and on your terms.
Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship struggles or PTSD, a trauma-informed approach ensures that therapy meets you where you are and honours the strength it takes to begin your healing journey.
